2012 Clemson Dinner, Thursday, March 8, 2012

South Carolina Dialogue Foundation and Intercultural Dialogue Club of CU organized 2nd Annual Future Leaders Dialogue Dinner on Thursday, March 8th at the Madren Conference Center of CU. The theme of program was “Empathy: Walking in Another’s Shoes”. We had two speakers, Senator Thomas Alexander, SC Senator and Dr. Mustafa Gokhan Sahin, Executive Director of Istanbul Center headquartered in Atlanta, GA. The 2nd Annual Future Leaders Dialogue Dinner was sponsored by College of Architecture, Arts and Humanities, College of Health, Education and Human Development, College of Business and Behavioral Sciences, Department of Chemistry, Department of Environmental Engineering and Earth Science, John E. Walker Department of Economics, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Harvey and Lucinda Gantt Center for Student Life, Chief Diversity Office and Creative Inquiry.

There have been fruitful discussions at the table about questions related to empathy. The moderator of each table summarized the answers to these during the dinner.

SCDF and IDC presented the Future Leader Achievement Award at the program. The award is designed to recognize undergraduate students who exhibit leadership in promoting the program’s theme and to support their social activities in regards of civic engagement, dialogue, diversity, and empathy.

The award is$200. This year’s Future Leader Achievement Award was presented to Kathryn E. Gasparro, a Civil Engineering sophomore, for her volunteer work in Latin America and New Orleans. The award was presented by Dr. Peter Cohen, Advisory Board Member of SCDF.

At the end of the program, Dr. Pamela Havice from School of Education talked about her personal experience and scientific research of the Study Abroad Programs. She emphasized the importance of Study Abroad Programs and referenced a study which suggests that students who participate in Study Abroad Programs improve sociologically and professionally.

SCDF give a special thanks to its partner student organization of IDC and all of the sponsoring departments, colleges, and centers of CU for making this program possible.

2012 Columbia Dinner, Thursday, March 22, 20012

South Carolina Dialogue Foundation and Intercultural Dialogue Student Organization at USC organized 2nd Annual Future Leaders Dialogue Dinner on Thursday, March 22th at Courtyard by Marriott in Columbia downtown. The theme of the program was “Empathy: Walking in Another’s Shoes.” We had two speakers, Darrell Jackson, senator, and Akif Aydin, president of South Carolina Dialogue Foundation.

There have been fruitful discussions at the table about questions related to empathy. The moderator of each table brought the summary of the discussions to the stage.Students were invited to participate in a raffle to win a $200; at the end of the program Jaime Chason, art education was received the award. Congratulations Jaime!! SCDF give a special thanks to Senator Darrell Jackson for attending the program as a speaker and gave a wonderful talk about empathy.

 2012 Greenville Dinner, Tuesday, April 10, 2012

SCDF held its 2nd Future Leaders Dialogue Dinner at Furman University on April 10th entitled "Empathy: Walking in another's shoes."

We had wonderful discussions around tables. We thank to the distinguished speakers Dr.James Edwards and Suleyman Eris for their inspirational speeches. This year's Future Leader Achievement Award was presented to Lauren Anderson is a senior Religion Major and a Poverty Studies Concentrator. The award was presented by Jens Holley, Advisory Board Member of SCDF.

2012 Clemson Dinner, Thursday, November 29, 2012

South Carolina Dialogue Foundation and Intercultural Dialogue Club of CU organized 3rd Annual Future Leaders Dialogue Dinner on Thursday, November 29th at the Madren Conference Center of CU.

The theme of program was "Integrity in Global Context". We had two speakers, Dr. Teddi Fishman, Director, Center for Academic Integrity and Dr. Elvan Aktas, Assoc. Prof. of Finance, Valdosta State University, GA.

There were over 95 students and faculty members joined the dinner. We had wonderful discussions around tables by addressing preset questions about Integrity.

Dr. Peter Cohen,SCDF advisory board member, announced SCDF's first Future Leaders Project Contest. Participants are asked to submit a proposal for the fostering of inter-cultural dialogue and understanding in the South Carolina.

First Place Award: Dialogue Trip to Turkey in the summer 2013 for 10 days * (All expenses in Turkey will be covered by the SCDF)
Second Place Award: Dialogue Trip to Turkey in summer 2013 for 10 days with administrative fee of $750 *
Third, Fourth and Fifth Place Awards: SC Senate House tour and lunch with State Senators in Spring term.
